Welcome
"Our fellowship is
focused, founded, and built on God's revealed Word to us: in the person of Jesus
Christ, our Savior and Lord; and through God's inspired written Word, the Bible.
It is our joy to extend to you,
your family, and friends a personal invitation to participate in the life and
activities of Jefferson Avenue Baptist Church.
Vision
Jesus is at work right
now in and throughout our community (however big or
small you may describe it). Our goal and vision is
to be at work with Him, and have Him lead us to
where and how He wants us to be involved in our
community, both collectively and individually.
Who we Are
Jefferson Avenue
Baptist Church began as a group of Christians saw
the need for a church in Jefferson Park, and
responded to God's leadership to plant a church here
some 60 years ago. Today, as Jefferson Park has aged
gracefully, so have we at Jefferson Avenue Baptist
Church (though not always in the same way). We
still feel that God has a purpose for us in the
Jefferson Park, East Point, and Tri-Cities
communities. We are an autonomous (self-governing)
Baptist church and by choice have affiliated
ourselves with the Atlanta Metro Baptist
Association, The Georgia Baptist Convention, and the
Southern Baptist Convention.
Mission
Jesus says the
greatest commandment is to love God and love your
neighbors. This command gives us two directions to
go in; a vertical relationship (with God, through
Jesus Christ, His Son, our Savior), and a horizontal
relationship (with those who live, work, play, shop,
etc. around us). In the Book of Acts, these
relationships are described like this:
"They (the first Christians) devoted themselves to
the apostles' teaching and to the fellowship, to the
breaking of bread and to prayer. Everyone was filled
with awe, and many wonders and miraculous signs were
done by the apostles. All the believers were
together and had everything in common. Selling their
possessions and goods, they gave to anyone as he had
need. Every day they continued to meet together in
the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes
and ate together with glad and sincere hearts,
praising God and enjoying the favor of all the
people. And the Lord added to their number daily
those who were being saved." Acts 2:42-47 NIV
We see five areas of purpose in this passage:
Worship, Evangelism, Ministry, Fellowship and
Missions. Each of these purposes can be accomplished
on an individual basis, but when Christians get
together for one or more of these purposes, we call
that Church.
Our mission is two fold. First, to introduce people
to God, through His Son, Jesus Christ, and help them
begin their own relationship with Him. Then Second,
to help all Christians strengthen their own
relationship with God, knowing that as we grow
closer to Him, individually and collectively, He
will lead us out into our community and show us
where He is working and help us work along side Him.
